"Tinkering" encapsulates how we learn.
It is especially relevant to the practice of being an apprentice. Learning by:
observing;
testing;
giving something a go in a safe environment;
ongoing practicing;
receiving and giving feedback in situ; and
mastering content, and processes, all within social/cultural practices.
The practice of being an apprentice is no longer understood as the poorer cousin to academic learning for example.
It is about learning to use digital technologies - not in a one or two day in-service but by "tinkering " having an open mind - knowing when to persist, who and wht to interact with, and when to fold.
